Healthy Eating

Only 1 in 5 North Carolinians eats the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and 46% meet physical activity recommendations. Increasing access to fresh produce and safe activity spaces can help residents and workers meet recommendations.
Transforming Health Together aims to increase or enhance farmers’ and mobile markets and farm stands, as well as create agreements that allow for shared use of physical activity facilities throughout a community, so eating smart and moving more will be easier.

Limited access to healthy food is a real concern that influences one’s health and well-being. Increasing a community’s access to healthy food choices like, fresh produce, improves quality of life and life expectancy, and decreases the prevalence of chronic disease associated with obesity.

Transforming Health Together is working on a solution to this problem by offering and promoting health food options in corner stores and by enhancing and creating additional farmers markets, mobile markets, farm stands, and community supported agriculture programs in our counties. Our regional team is working to collaborate and strengthen partnerships with farmers markets, corner stores, local growers, and the community!
